This policy explains what personal data the Kayda mobile application (the “App”) collects, why, how it is protected, and the choices you have. By using Kayda you agree to it and to the Kayda Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not sign in; you can still read the law without an account.
Kayda is an app for reading and comparing Indian criminal law: the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure and the Indian Evidence Act, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam that replaced them. It also includes the Constitution of India.
Kayda is run by TechGlobe Consultancy Services LLP (“we,” “our,” or “us”), which decides why and how your personal data is processed and is the Data Fiduciary under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (“DPDP Act”). You can reach us at admin@techglobe.in.
Reading laws (the Constitution and the criminal law Acts), searching, comparing old and new sections, and downloading laws for offline use do not need an account. We do not ask for your name or any other personal detail for these.
When you sign in or use features that need an account, we collect:
Some data never leaves your phone: your theme, text size, read-aloud speed, language choice and reminder time; downloaded laws and cached law text; and an offline copy of your library and any changes waiting to sync. Your library copy and sign-in tokens are stored encrypted. This data is removed when you uninstall the App or clear its storage.
We do not use your data to advertise to you, build profiles to sell, or train AI models.
We process your personal data with your consent, which you give when you choose to sign in, and you can withdraw it at any time (see “Your Rights”). We may also process it for certain legitimate uses allowed by the DPDP Act, such as responding to a request you made, complying with law, or protecting the security of the service. Withdrawing consent means we can no longer provide features that need an account.
Sign-in is handled by Google. Google’s own privacy policy applies to what Google collects when you use it. You can see and remove Kayda’s access in your Google Account settings under security and third-party access.
If you turn on the daily study reminder, Kayda asks for permission to show notifications and schedules a reminder on your device at the time you pick. It is a local reminder: it is not sent from our servers and uses no push service. You can turn it off in the App’s Settings or in your phone’s settings.
Read aloud uses the text-to-speech engine on your phone. Depending on your phone, that engine (for example Google’s) may process text on your device or on its provider’s servers under its own policy. Kayda does not record your voice.
When you share a section or export a PDF, you choose where it goes. Once you send it to another app or person, we cannot control what they do with it. To make a PDF, the section text is sent to our server, which builds the file and returns it to you.
We do not sell or rent your personal data. We share it only with:
Your data is stored on servers of our cloud providers, which may be located outside India. The DPDP Act allows transfers to other countries unless the Government of India restricts them. We choose providers with appropriate security.
No system is perfectly secure. Data Breach Notification: if a breach affects your personal data, we will tell you and the Data Protection Board of India as the DPDP Act requires.
Under the DPDP Act you may:
Kayda is meant for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you are under 18, please do not sign in without a parent or guardian’s consent. If you think a child has given us data, write to us and we will delete it.
Notes and highlights are private to your account, but they are stored on our servers. Do not enter confidential client information, case details or other people’s sensitive personal data in them.
Kayda gives legal information, not legal advice. We do not review your notes or activity to give you advice, and nothing here creates a lawyer-client relationship.
The App requests the following device permissions:
The App does not request location, contacts, camera, microphone, photos or storage permissions.
Kayda may link to outside sites, such as official government sources. We do not control them and are not responsible for their privacy practices.
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last Updated” date is at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the App before it takes effect. Using Kayda after a change means you accept the new policy.
This policy is governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India have jurisdiction.
For any question, request or complaint about your personal data, write to us. Please include the email address of your Kayda account. We will acknowledge your message and aim to reply within 7 days, and resolve the matter within 30 days.
